The River Basin Committee of Baixo Paraíba do Sul and Itabapoana - Baixo Paraíba do Sul and Itabapoana Committees was established by State Decree No. 41,720, dated March 03, 2009. On February 25, 2016, Decree by State Decree No. 45,584. Headquartered in the municipality of Campos dos Goytacazes / RJ, the Committee is a collegiate body that is part of the State System of Management and Water Resources - SEGRHI, in accordance with State Law No. 3.239 / 1999.
Its objective is to promote the decentralized and participatory management of the water resources of Hydrographic Region IX of the State of Rio de Janeiro, which comprises the region of the Muriaé, Pomba, Pirapetinga, Novato and Adjacentes Rivers, Jacaré, Campelo , Cacimbas, Muritiba, Coutinho, Grussaí, Iquipari, Açu, Pau Fincado, Nicolau, Preto, Ururaí Preto, Pernambuco, Imbé, Imbé Creek, Prata, Macabu, São Miguel, Arrozal, Ribeira, Carapebus, Itabapoana, Guaxindiba, Buena, Baixa do Arroz, Guriri and by small basins on the right and left bank of Baixo Paraíba do Sul.
The area of activity of the Committee covers the municipalities of Quissamã, Natividade, São João da Barra, Cambuci, Itaperuna, São José de Ubá, Italva, Santo Antônio de Pádua, Cardoso Moreira, Aperibé, Miracema, Varre-Sai, São Francisco Of Itabapoana, Porziuncula and Laje do Muriaé, as well as, partially, the municipalities of Trajano de Morais, Conceição de Macabu, Carapebus, Campos dos Goytacazes, São Fidélis, and Santa Maria Madalena, located in the north and northwestern regions of Rio de Janeiro State from January.
The Lower Paraíba do Sul and Itabapoana Committees have advisory, deliberative and normative functions at the regional level, and it is composed of a plenary with 30 full members, with the right to voice and vote, and their respective alternates, distributed as follows:
The Committee also has a Board of Officers, composed of a Chief Executive Officer, a Vice President Director, a Secretary Director and three Administrative Officers, elected by the plenary, and two active Technical Chambers. Its Internal Rules were approved at a Plenary Meeting of the Committee on June 21, 2011, and have already undergone an amendment.
